What exactly is a DNFBP, and why does that label matter for my business?

الإجابة

DNFBP stands for "Designated Non-Financial Business or Profession" — activities that aren't banks or financial institutions in the traditional sense, but that the law treats as exposed to money-laundering risk because of the nature of the work. The list includes real estate brokers and agents, dealers in precious metals and stones, trust and corporate service providers, and accounting/audit firms and independent legal professionals when they carry out specific activities such as managing a client's money, forming companies on their behalf, or buying and selling real estate or business entities for them.

If your activity falls under any of these categories, it isn't just a label — it triggers a full set of obligations under Federal Decree-Law No. 10 of 2025 and its implementing Cabinet Resolution No. 134 of 2025: mandatory registration on the Financial Intelligence Unit's goAML platform, appointing an independent, competent compliance officer (MLRO), conducting a business-level risk assessment, applying customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence procedures, screening clients against sanctions lists, reporting suspicious transactions, running annual staff training, and keeping records for at least five years. Penalties for failing to comply are not symbolic and can reach millions of dirhams for serious breaches. RASEEKH starts by confirming whether your activity genuinely qualifies as a DNFBP, then builds the compliance framework around what your business actually does.
