An audit involves detailed testing of balances and material transactions, ending in an independent opinion that can be presented to a bank, a regulator, or an investor with full confidence. A review is lighter — analytical procedures and inquiries rather than detailed testing — giving limited assurance rather than a full opinion. The distinction matters because certain entities (companies above a set revenue threshold, or a "Qualifying Free Zone Person") are required to have a full audit, not just a review.
