UAE Corporate Tax penalties in 2026 — the full list as it currently stands

التساؤل

If I fall behind on any Corporate Tax obligation — registration, filing, payment, or record-keeping — what does the penalty actually cost right now?

الإجابة

More than two years into Corporate Tax in the UAE, the administrative penalties attached to it are now well established and relatively stable. The one thing every business owner needs to internalize is that these penalties are entirely separate from the tax itself — a company can be fined even when it turns out no tax is owed at all, whether due to an exemption or a loss position, and more than one penalty can stack up at once if several obligations fall behind together.

Late registration beyond the deadline assigned to a company's category carries a fixed penalty of AED 10,000 — a one-time charge, not a recurring one, regardless of the company's size or activity, and regardless of whether it turns out the company owes any actual tax.

Late filing of the tax return is charged monthly: AED 500 for each month (or part of a month) of delay during the first 12 months from the due date, rising to AED 1,000 per month for any delay beyond that — so the penalty grows the longer the filing is left outstanding.

Failing to settle tax due on time carries a cumulative penalty of 14% per annum on the unpaid amount, calculated monthly from the payment due date for as long as the balance remains unsettled — which makes late payment considerably more expensive than most forms of short-term financing.

Failing to keep the accounting records and commercial documentation required by law carries a penalty of AED 10,000 for a first violation, rising to AED 20,000 if the same violation recurs within 24 months — this covers sales and purchase invoices, contracts, and asset records alike.

Delaying an application to deregister after a business winds down or ceases operating carries a penalty of AED 1,000 per month of delay, capped at a total of AED 10,000 — an obligation many businesses simply forget once they have already stopped trading, letting the penalty accumulate for no reason.

This is not an exhaustive list of every possible violation — others, such as failing to notify the authority of changes to company details or filing an inaccurate return, are set out in Cabinet Decision No. 75 of 2023. The best protection for any business is tracking its own deadlines rather than dealing with a penalty after it lands. At RASEEKH, we go through the full tax calendar with clients — registration, filing, and payment alike — to avoid penalties from the start, rather than handling them after the fact.
